Overview
IAE Detector is a Chrome browser extension that scans web pages for International Art English (IAE) vocabulary, scores the density of that vocabulary, and optionally highlights identified terms directly on the page.
IAE Detector collects no personal data, sends no information to any server, and has no analytics, tracking, or telemetry of any kind. Everything the extension does happens locally on your device.
This Privacy Policy explains in detail what data the extension accesses, why, and what it does with it — to ensure full transparency with users and compliance with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.
Data We Collect
IAE Detector accesses only one type of data:
- The visible text content of the active browser tab — read locally, on-device, only when you click "Scan Page." This text is processed immediately to produce a score and word list, then discarded. It is never stored, logged, or transmitted.
That is the complete and exhaustive list. The extension accesses no other data at any time.
Data We Do Not Collect
The following data is never accessed, stored, or transmitted by IAE Detector under any circumstances:
- Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
- Your browsing history or the URLs of pages you visit
- The content of other browser tabs
- Cookies, session data, or authentication tokens
- Passwords or form field content
- Your IP address or location
- Device identifiers or hardware information
- Usage patterns, click data, or analytics of any kind
- The text of pages you scan — this is processed and immediately discarded
IAE Detector has no user accounts, no login, no registration, and no mechanism for identifying individual users.
Permissions Explained
IAE Detector requests the following Chrome permissions, each strictly necessary for the extension to function:
- activeTab — Allows the extension to read the text content of the currently active tab when you click "Scan Page." Without this permission, the extension cannot scan any page. This permission is scoped to a single, explicit user action and does not grant background access.
- scripting — Allows the extension to inject a content script into the active page when you enable highlighting. This script marks up IAE terms with colored spans and removes them when you click "Hide." No data is extracted or transmitted by this script.
- storage — Used only to remember your highlight toggle preference between sessions (on or off). No personal data, text content, or page data is stored using this permission.
The extension does not request <all_urls> host permissions, does not run in the background, and does not access any page without an explicit user action.
Third Parties
IAE Detector has no relationship with any third party in connection with user data. Specifically:
- No analytics services (e.g. Google Analytics, Mixpanel) are used
- No advertising networks are involved
- No data brokers or data-sharing arrangements exist
- No external APIs are called by the extension at runtime
- No crash reporting or error logging services are used
- No third-party SDKs or scripts are bundled in the extension
The extension is entirely self-contained. All logic — the word list, scoring algorithm, highlighting engine, and popup interface — runs locally from the installed extension files, with no network requests of any kind.
Local Storage
IAE Detector uses Chrome's local storage API only to persist your highlight preference (whether highlighting is toggled on or off) between sessions. This preference is:
- Stored locally on your device only
- Never transmitted anywhere
- Readable only by the IAE Detector extension itself
- Clearable at any time by removing the extension or clearing extension data in Chrome settings
No text content, page data, scan history, or any other information is stored locally or remotely.
Children's Privacy
IAE Detector does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because the extension collects no personal data from any user, it is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy — for example, if the extension adds a feature that involves data collection — we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the extension after any such update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
Given that IAE Detector is designed to be a privacy-preserving, fully local tool, we do not anticipate material changes to this policy.
